"On November 5th, 1957, Elvis boarded the USS Matsonia for the 4 day boat trip to Hawaii. There, he would give the last three live performances of the 1950s. He left Honolulu on the USS Lurline on November 13, 1957.
During this visit, Elvis fell in love with the beauty of the islands and the hospitality of the people. Hawaii would become Elvis´ favorite vacation destination and he would enjoy many until his last one in March of 1977. Not only did he make three movies in Hawaii, Blue Hawaii, Girls! Girls! Girls! and Paradise, Hawaiian Style, he also came to Hawaii for two more live performances.
The first was on March 25, 1961. The show was a fund raiser to build a memorial for the USS Arizona, the largest of the battleships that had been sunk on December 7, 1941, during the surprise Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor.
The second was also a benefit show beamed world-wide on January 14, 1973. It benefited the Kui Lee Cancer Found. Kui Lee, who died of this disease in 1966, had composed the song "I´ll Remember You."
