Elvis Jumpsuit 1969 -1977

Also in March 2007, a special exhibit of Elvis Presley's stage costumes from the major concert era of his career, 1969-1977, will open in the Graceland visitor center at the Sincerely Elvis Museum, an exhibition space that features a new themed exhibit each year or so. The permanent exhibits at Graceland relating the story of Elvis' career feature a significant display of costumes, which hold a certain fascination for the general public and have great meaning to devoted Elvis fans. The special exhibit will feature more than 50 additional Presley stage outfits, such as the famed "jumpsuits," with metal and rhinestone studding and matching capes, and others with elaborate embroidery. In addition, there will be related photographs, archival documents and performance footage. The special exhibit will be on display for two years.

"We've spent nearly a year now in planning and research for the design of the exhibit, but the installation date is almost here. Just a few last minute lists to go over to make sure we have everything we need to make this happen. The most difficult task is behind us.

We pre-dressed ALL 58 mannequins for a photo shoot a few weeks ago. We'll soon be posting some of the photos for Insiders. The photos are going to be used in our very first exhibit catalog that will be available to purchase in March. It was an amazing site seeing all of these performance costumes in one room.

We have all gotten really good at dressing Elvis. In fact, we can now dress a mannequin in about 10 minutes. Jerry Schilling said that is faster then Elvis could have dressed himself for a concert. We are all feeling so proud. This exhibit has been so much fun and such an honor to put together. I can't wait for the installation to see all of these elements finally come together".

"The new jumpsuit exhibit has been an exciting project to work on. I helped set up for the photo shoot and some of the costumes that will be on display, I had never seen before.

To be so close to the costumes and see the detail and workmanship that went into these suits was just amazing. As we were developing the exhibit logo I wanted it to reflect the strong colors and impact of the jumpsuit designs, as well as represent the era when Elvis wore them on stage. I know all of you are going to love this exhibit.

We are starting to layout the exhibit catalog and choosing which jumpsuit photos and which photos of Elvis we will be using.

After Graceland, the highlight of the next two years will be without any doubt the 'Sincerely Elvis Museum'. There are not less than 56 jumpsuits on display. Duke, citizen of Memphis and reporter for our collegue's at Elvis Express Radio visted the expo and was overwhelmed. The suits are placed in a timeline, starting with 1969 and ending with the baby blue suit that Elvis would never where in 1977. Sources inside EPE confirm that they own 88 jumpsuits: 56 in this expo, 10 in the racquetball building, 3 in the trophy room and 2 in the Afterdark expo. That means that there are still 17 suits that are left in the vaults.
