Mohegan Sun Casino this week heralded its part in the Beach Boys’ 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour. The legendary band with its surviving founding members will be at Mohegan Sun Arena May 12.
“We’re hoping it will be fantastic, unique and memorable,” said Brian Wilson in a phone chat Monday.
After years of acrimony, lawsuits and separation, Wilson and cousin Mike Love will be joined by Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks (who plays guitar on “Surfin’ USA”) in a 50-date tour launching in New Orleans in April.
These surviving members haven’t toured together in 45 years, according to one report. Tickets for the Mohegan date go on sale Friday at Ticketmaster and on Saturday at the Mohegan Sun box office ($55 and $75).
“It’s going to be pretty darn special,” said Love.
The celebration includes a new album being produced by Wilson and Love that is “coming along great,” said Love. “If you were to hear these songs, you would think it’s 1965 or ’66 again” given the harmonies, chord progression and tracking.
Wilson’s brothers and Beach Boys co-founders Dennis and Carl died in 1983 and 1998, respectively. Brian Wilson, known as a genius of choral arrangement and especially for the landmark album “Pet Sounds,” spent years in therapy recovering from drug abuse, but has been solo touring despite his long-held stage fright.
“I’m a little self-conscious sitting on my stool doing a concert,” said Wilson, “but it was the right time (to rejoin the group)... and there’s strength in numbers.”
On Monday, once-estranged cousin Love said, “Brian has come up with a whole bunch of great stuff” for the album. Love is supplying lyrics for it and has also written songs.
“There’s some pretty original music,” said Wilson, “and it’s a collaboration.”
The two came together and re-rerecorded “Do It Again” at Capitol Records last year. Love said Wilson paid him a compliment about sounding great after so many years. Wilson said he missed the boys, and he looks forward to the thrill of being on stage again “with my family.”
Love, who led one version of the Beach Boys to Mohegan Sun about a year ago, echoed that, saying, “This will be special because we’ll all be together. ... It will be great for our fans to see those of us original guys who are still around.”
Fans will also get a chance to see the reunited group on the Grammy Awards show Sunday, in a hush-hush appearance confirmed by Love Monday.
Wilson sounded confident about the tour especially, saying, “I don’t know at what point on the tour you may see us, but I guarantee that it will only get better and better.”

Brian hat seinen Einsatz ein bisschen vermasselt, was aber Jeffrey Foskett ausgebügelt hat. Ansonsten sehr cool. Hoffe auf bessere Qualität bald
