-- Super Aussage! Ich will wissen, was an der Liste so toll ist <_<

hier also das "review" im Wortlaut:

It is funny that it is said that there must be "nothing new in the book or we would have heard by now", or something to that effect. The reason why a review has probably not been written yet is because of the size and sheer volume of material in the book. I will attempt to write a review, but I am afraid this review will not do it justice because I am still digesting all the information found in this book.
I had this book on my couch and from looking at it, it looks like the size of a small Phone book! I, for one, am glad it is so big because it is the one exauhastive book about . Even if you are not a fan this is a fasinating read. is that is a must. IF YOU ARE AN ELVIS FAN YOU MUST GET THIS BOOK. One look at all the facts, figures and information in these pages one wonders how Mr. Tunzi was able to get this book out in such a short time! Yes, I said a short time because if anyone went to record all the information, the referances and the crosschecking one would think this might have taken 10 years to write.
When the book arives you can easily see that you are not getting one book, but you are getting many books in one. First, it is an incredable photo journal. Joe set the standards with his many photo journal books, this is no different. The pictures are sharp, clear, unreleased and unbelievable! In fact, we have one picture of Elvis posing with his friends. He is possible 10 years old in this picture! Second, you have updated information on all Elvis recording sessions. A more of a complete list of what was recorded, the takes and wheather he just did 'work parts' to finish songs. Third, you get a very complete list of Top Ten Songs and Albums of the Pop, Country and R&B Charts of Billboard and Cashbox Magazine. Joe wrote the 'book' on Elvis chart lacings with his Billboard Book, and for those that did not get that book you have a fresh look at all the nessecary information in here. In Joe's last book he gave us a list of Studio and live 'Highlights' that are in the vaults. Eventually all of those recordings that he had listed has come to light on the RCA of FTD label. The fact that all those recordings have come to light tells us that Joe has a very gook idea of what is in the vault and what will come out. That is why the 'highlights' that are listed in this book is a must. We know from Joes previous list that thes songs will eventulally come out. Well, this list is even more impressive thatn the previous one. This includes close to 300 preformance and what a list of songs they are. Then we have all the complete shows from Vegas 69 and 72. On top of that we have a comprehensive and updated list of all rehersal from 69 to 76, and what a list that is. We have more session paper work than ever before and if you put that together with the first two volumes you will 'blow your mind'. A section of Lost singles and Albums. Including the art work and track listing for those albums! A collectors Dream! Films, TV Special and Video anylasis is not to be believed. It gives the fan the acuallly date of all preformaces that all on every video or DVD performance. Another feature that all should love is the outakes. As we all know a ton of outtakes have been released between FTD and RCA. All of these outakes are listed in order of release. so for most of us Joe is cataloging a large part of our collection since a great majority of us have all these releases.
This book is a chance for us to have the entire Elvis catalog in our hands. Joe has collected all this valuable infor from Indianapolis, Nashville and from all over the country to gives us a very consise record of our hero's music.
The bad part of my review is I am still leaving so much out, but that is what happens when want to tell all of you fellow fans about this great book.
Is the price of this book worth a CD or is it worth a fraction of the cost to take another trip to Memphis? Of course it is. In conclusion, the I con only repeat the reaction that Elvis might have had, if he saw read this book
'My Boy', 'My Boy!'

BUY THE BOOK, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPONTED!!!!!!

Burning Love

Jetzt geht es aber rund .... das nächste Review ist erschienen:

Ok after thumbing through this volume for a few hours I thought I would give my first impression of the book. Not a review per se, but rather some observations that I think are relevant.

The first thing I noticed is, is that it is thick. Its a big book. A very attractive cover and all done on high quality paper. It has been said before on another post, but it really is several books in one.

The highlights for me have to be the studio sessions, rehearsals, listings of dvd's soundbaords, and details of "thats the ways it is" and "elvis on tour". The rehearsals seem to be a good place for unreleased performances. And there is alot listed. Most previously known, but some not. And we get the dates, which is nice.

I think the book could have been cut down in size somewhat. The format is a little hard to follow. I would have lowered the fonts on the overdub sessions just because its not a priroity for me and that would cut down on the page numbers. To be truthful its different but no better than Ernst's format. I actually like the format of the masters and sessions website. It's easlier to read and all the takes are listed in order. In Mr. tunzi's book when you want to look up a song, you then have to check further down to find the outttakes, then even further to find explaination of splices and so forth. I would rather have it all together, but that is personal preference.

Another thing I would cut out is the pre-1977 discography. Its been done in many books and is really a waste of pages here. Perhaps he could have just listed the cd's, since we are in the cd age. Then mr. Tunzi relists all the albums again to show charted positions. Why not just put the chart position next to the title in the discography??

He has a section called Unreleased highlights. Not sure why he gathered these titles, but amoung them are takes 1,2, and 3 of "double trouble". A home recording featuring Charlie Hodge. These are highlights? Granted there are many others but to use the word, "highlights" seems a little exaggerated here.

It's nice to know they did film "nearer my God to thee" for "on tour", but it seems "young and beautiful" was not filmed. Though it was recorded by RCA, luckily. Another Gem was recorded and or filmed, and a previously unknown title, but alas Elvis was off mic. I'll let you find the title. And a prevously known unreleased title from "spinout" seems to have been recorded. Paperwork is shown, but who knows. Could be another "i'm a roustabout", but I doubt it.

Nice to know that alot of soundboards from july 1975 are listed.
I think Joe is in error of his notes on "I feel that I've known you forever".
And he doesn't explain the different takes of home recordings of "danny boy", and "I'm beginning to forget you".

There are alot of real nice photos in this book. The back cover is great. As is the one showing Elvis at the piano on september 1st, 1956. On page 174 he errors in captioning the photo in reverse. And on page 120 the image is reversed. On page 404, the heading shows the year 1970, but the text is talking about 1974. One photo from the Sullivan show is captioned as being from the Berle show, though the photo below it, is from the Berle show.

In the discography he gets the title of EPA-830 wrong, as does nearly every book that does a discography. The correct title is "shake rattle & roll.

I would have thought that the book would have been a hard cover given the price. Soft cover books get so worn out so easily. Ernst's book was hard cover and cheaper. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I think if mr. Tunzi had cut out a few unnecessary sections, and used smaller fonts on the over dubs sessions, he could have cut the book about 100 pages and would have been able to cut the price another 10 dollars.

In summary, given the amount of pages, I could find very few errors, and those are mainly typos. This was the first book by JAT that I have ever purchased and I am happy with it. As far as format goes, that is always going to be a personal preference kind of thing, and i can get past some of the shortcomings it has.
